Living in Expatria

Meus amigos,

In case you didn't understand the post yesterday I shall explain. I scored as a Mastermind in the Spark Personality Test. A submissive, introverted abstract thinker. What does this mean, you ask? Well I'll tell you. Well I'll actually post to you what they told me:

"You are a MASTERMIND (SIAT). You can be silent and withdrawn, but behind your reserved exterior lies an active mind that allows you to analyze situations and come up with creative, unexpected solutions. Normal people call this “scheming.” Don’t learn German." (Mo note: Thank god - Portuguese is hard enough without all the extra consonants and gutterals!). "Anyway, your sense of style and originality are your strengths, and people will respect your judgment once they get to know you. If you learn to be a little more personable, you could be a great leader--you’ve definitely got the “vision” thing down. Just make sure all the plotting you do behind those eyes of yours is healthy. Famous masterminds in television: Dr. Claw, The Scarecrow and Mrs. King, and Montgomery Burns."

You too can have such a fine tuned description of yourself if you take the test. Just click on my big old mastermind noggin' below. I think they're hinting that I could vvery well turn mad scientist. Quite possibly. I have cultivated my evil laugh over time. If you agree... send me something from the World Domination Personal Starter Set from IT3C (It's a virtual thang). I know I sound like I might actually be in a pretty good mood... but it's a facade, really. I'm actually just heady from the acetone fumes of the manicure I had this afternoon. Champagne moss is a snazzy colour though...;)

Party tonight. My buddy's leaving (Farewell Brenda!). But as depressing as that is.... all my thoughts shall stay firmly focused on the fact that I shall spend Saturday afternoon sprawled on a towel in the lovely white sands of the Praia Copacobana reading the last hundred pages of my phenominal book, watching the Cariocas play foot volley and surf and generally romp on the beach and idly wondering if I should have a caphirinia.

Oh...

And *definately* go and check out my new travel journal. Of course I wouldn't dream of neglecting you, but The IgoUgo journal will have restaurant and hotel rundowns, notes on things to do and stuff to see and all that jazziness. It's like a Lonely Planet written by the everyday Mo.

Baited breath...

Okay so maybe held breath is the better way of saying it. There's some big news this morning about the company and so much speculation that everybody's aswimming in theories. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Okay, so I've been remiss and haven't posted much in the last while. Things have stepped up to a feverish pace, and I have to keep reminding myself to do it. After all, *you* guys don't remind me. Most of ya don't even mail me any more! I'll just go sit in the garden and eat some worms now... oh wait, there is no garden. Damn.

Okay, so what do I have to say? After my last big long post I went to Opera Lys and brought the house *down* with my videoke rendition of Three Dog Night's Joy to the World. I saw a couple of movies, 60 Seconds (With your girl, Nic) and Mar Em Furia! (Perfect Storm). Not bad either one, though neither will live on my shelves either. Good mindless fun for a Saturday night. And something to keep me from being sad about missing the wedding.... which brings me to...

CONGRATS TO ROBB AND DANA SINCLAIR!

Would *somebody* please tell me about the wedding already? I'm *dyin'* here!

There was another goodbye party last Thursday for the only other Expat that's been hanging with me in Campinas all this time. And I came back into São Paulo on Saturday to a fancypants dinner at an upscale French Restaurant (I had duck!) and a nightcap in a local poshy bar. Sunday went to Embu which is a little aritsan village about a half hour outside of town that has squares (pracas) and laneways full of tents and nooks and little stores of some of the most beautiful artwork and stuff. I bought myself a pair of frames that are made of a light coloured stone and painted in a braziliero pattern. and I've set them up with one of the faboo pictures Craig gave me the night before I took off for all things south of the equator. The other is a picture of my mom and Sheilagh taken out in my Mom's backyard with the apple tree all abloom behind it. Now that I've got them home with pictures in them, I wish I'd bought the green and red ones too (I got myself black and blue).

I bought the gift long overde for my sister's wedding, and I think they'll both agree that the wait was worth it - although Sheil - I'm not gonna let slip what it is here, either. You just have to wait 'till I get home. Then dinner at a churrasco, of course and then home to net and bed. I haven't been well over the last four days or so, yicked out with a head cold, but not to worry, I made sure to take plenty of super-strength echinacea with me when I came.

In São Paulo until Friday, and then off to Rio for the weekend (woo!). I'll be going to Macaé for two weeks as of Monday morning. I'm pretty confident that my experience there will be much better than my experience in Campinas. I mean hell... if nothing else, I can walk out of my hotel room and frolic on the beach. Have I told you all lately that I love the Atlantic Ocean? (It -is- the atlantic ocean, this far south isn't it?) Anyway... gotta go. One hour left to fret about the news and get a bit of work done.

I promise I'll try to do better.

We've been sold. To Velocom.

See the whole official story.

Not sure what all of this means yet, but it doesn't feel good.
